Putin visits the Kursk nuclear energy plant in Russia
President Vladimir Putin visited the Kursk region of Russia for the first time since Moscow said he expelled the Ukrainian forces of the area last month, said the Kremlin.
The visit not announced by Mr. Putin seemed to be an effort to show that Russia has control of the conflict, although its large -scale invasion of its neighbor has been slow and expensive in terms of casualties and equipment.
The video transmission by the Russian state media showed that Putin visited Kursk Nuclear Power-2, which is still under construction, and met with selected volunteers.
Many of the volunteers wore stamped clothes with the Russian flag, some had the Latin letters «V» in them, one of the symbols of the invasion of Ukraine in Russia.
«What you are doing now during this difficult situation for this region, for this area and for the country, will remain with you for the rest of your life as, perhaps, the most significant with which it was involved,» Putin said while dranking tea with volunteers.
The Ukrainian forces made a surprise raid in Kursk in August 2024 in one of their greatest successes on the battlefield in the war of more than three years. The incursion was the first time that the Russian territory was occupied by an invader since World War II and gave a humiliating blow to the Kremlin.

Finland completes the first 35 km closely on the Russian border
Finland has completed the first 35 km (22 miles) of a nearly 4.5 meters (15 feet) high that is building on its eastern border closed with Russia to prevent migrants from crossing through the desert, said Finnish border guard.
Finland began building the fence, which will eventually cover 200 km (124 miles) of the total of 1,344 km (835 miles) of the border, last year in response to migration through Russia through the border in 2023, which believes that it was deliberately orchestrated by Moscow.
«The main objective of the fence is to control a large mass of people if they are trying to enter Russia in Finland,» the attached commander of the Border Guard District of Southeast of Finland, Antti Virters, told Reuters.
After decades of peaceful relations with Russia, Finland joined the NATO military alliance two years ago in response to the invasion of Ukraine in Russia, which led Moscow to threaten Helsinki with reprisals.

Russia’s new sanctions explained: Ukraine allies point to Moscow while peace conversations stop
Kiev European allies slapped new sanctions on Tuesday in Moscow, one day after a phone call between the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin failed to produce an advance at the end of the 3 -year war in Ukraine.
Diplomatic efforts have seen few progress in the arrest of the fight, despite Monday’s phone call between Trump and Putin, and the direct conversations of Friday between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul.
In the phone call, the Russian president promised Trump that his country is «ready to work with» Ukraine in a «memorandum» describing the framework for «a possible treaty of future peace.»
But so far, conversations involving the United States have produced little in the path of concrete results.
The new sanctions of the European Union went to almost 200 ships of the «shadow fleet» of Russia that illicitly transported oil to border the western restrictions that also imposed the freezing of assets and the prohibitions of travel to several officials, as well as several Russian companies.
