Giants QB Jaxson Dart’s knee injury reportedly worse than anticipated, possibly season-ending

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart could reportedly be done for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury during Monday night’s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, MRI results showed the damage was worse than expected. Dart will be out for an «extended period of time» and the injury could end his season.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh met with reporters Tuesday afternoon and said Dart continues to be evaluated and they have not made any decisions on the quarterback’s future status. The team «learned a lot more» about the injury after the MRI.

«It’s an ongoing conversation about the health of a player, of a person,» Harbaugh said. «We have to prepare for the range of possibilities.»

As for whether the injury could require season-ending surgery, Harbaugh said, «I don’t think I can comment on that right now until we know for sure what’s going to happen.»

Dart suffered the injury in the first quarter and did not return to the game. X-rays were negative and the second-year signal-caller underwent an MRI on Tuesday after the team returned home from Los Angeles.

During the first drive of the game, Dart dropped back to pass and jumped to make a downfield shot while under pressure. He became trapped between Rams linebackers Josaiah Stewart and Byron Young before falling to the ground clutching his left knee.
