«A UPSE AUTIC GHOST» by Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke has collected the Grand Prix of Critics Week.
The film has been collecting fans among journalists from the premiere, intrigued by its absurd but sweet history of a woman who dies from the pollution of dust and a husband who is surprised to discover that her spirit has been reincarnated, in a vacuum cleaner.
«A ghost -possessed vacuum cleaner may sound like a standard horror rate, but in the hands of Thai director Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke, it becomes a cunning comment on pollution, the dynamics of power and the cost of the life crisis in Bangkok,» he wrote, «he wrote VarietyNaman Ramachandran earlier this week, with the director adding:
«Thailand is well known for horror movies, and we also have a genre that could not travel much abroad: terror comedy. But with this film, I try not to follow the conventions of both paths. One of my first ideas was to wonder how a ghost could exist in contemporary society. Do you need to work? Because the cost of living is now very expensive.»
The jury, chaired by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Jihane Bougrine, Josée Deshaies, Yulina Evina Bhara and Daniel Kaluuya, called him a «bold, free and non -classifiable work. A first feature that reproduces with the genres, doubles the rules and offers a vision that is intimidated and universal.»
«This movie surprised us, moved and shook us, and it is this rare mixture of humor, melancholy and masterful cinematography that we wanted to greet.»
They also granted «Imago» by Déni Oumar Pitsaev.
In the film, Déni inherits a land patch in the wild valley of Pankissi and sees the opportunity to finally build the house in the trees he has dreamed. But nothing in the resistant Caucasus is always simple. Upon returning to a town on the other side of the border with Cheheno where he was born, Déni agitates old disputes.
«I’m incredibly happy. I still can’t believe what is happening,» said Pitsaev Variety After his victory.
«Just being here in Cannes with my first film, in the week of critics, already felt like the greatest victory. This award is overwhelming. I think I will only begin to realize everything tomorrow, after a good night of sleep. I am also deeply proud of what this means not only for my movie, but for the documentary cinema as a whole. It means a lot.»
The Louis Roedrer Foundation Rising Star award went to Théodore Pellerin for «Nino» by Pauline Lobles.
«This actor never exaggerated his hand, never overwhelmed the stage,» the jurors argued, noting that he embodied his character with «depth, vulnerability and density that went beyond what was written. Nothing was forced. No word sounded false. Everything seemed real, he lived, he experienced,» they said, «praising the harmony between an actor, a role and a director.»
Previously, the Canadian actor made waves with his energetic turn to «become Karl Lagerfeld», where he played Jacques de Bascher and «Franklin», he was also in «Beau is afraid» by Ari Aster. Here, he plays a young man who comes to a hospital for a regular check -up, on the other hand, receives devastating news.
Among the awards of other partners, the SACD award, awarded by the Guild of writers of France, went to Guillermo Galoe and Victor Alonso-Berbel, co-repressed of Sleemless City («city without sleep).
Directed by Galoe, the characteristic of the Spanish French offers a lyrical, elegant but very grounded vision of an increasingly fisiparan Romani family in the Cañada Real, which is said to be the largest city of joke in southern Europe, whose way of life disappears as its residents move to the high -height sterile apartments blocks on the outskirts of Madrid.
«The film does not want to romantize the Cañada Real. But ask questions. This world is disappearing, but for what? A world that is terribly homogenized, anxiously capitalist and hyper-with but very connected. There is no sense of community in large cities. The question is whether we have to give up everything?» Galoe said Variety.
Le Pacte, French «left-handed» distributor from Shih-Ching Tsou, received the GAN Foundation for its distribution.
The latter was co -written, co -produced by the winner of Palme d’Or last year, and the winner of the Oscar, Sean Baker.
According to Jessica Kiang, «left-handed girl», on a single mother and her two daughters who return to Taipei to open a stand in a night market, it is «a safe and charming portrait of difficult motherhood and painful pain, but perhaps it is more intertwined for its turn-Kaleoscope-View of the hometown, where the characters are the bounting beads, but the Glitter-Kitters-View of the director’s vision. »
