People confirmed that a cruise captain died in the sea in the middle of a 19 -day cruise.

Captain Michele Bartolomei was captaining the cruise of the diamond princess when she died suddenly on May 19 after a medical emergency while the ship was in Taiwan.

«With a deep sadness that we shared the news of the death of Captain Michele Bartolomei, who had a sudden medical emergency and died aboard the princess of Diamond,» Princess Cruises told People in a statement. «Captain Bartolomei was a respected leader, whose decades of service in the sea exemplified professionalism, dedication and care for both guests and crew.»

Princess Cruises added: «Our hearts are with Captain Bartolomei’s family during this incredibly difficult time, and we expand our deepest condolences to them. We also support the entire crew of the princess of diamonds and all employees in our company who had the honor of working with him.»

The company says it is working closely with the family and members of the Bartolomei crew to «guarantee your well -being.»

According to 9News, the passengers were informed of the captain’s death through a letter delivered to his cabins. The letter shared that Captain Salvatore Macera would take care of Bartolomei for the rest of the trip.

In the letter, shared by Crew Center, Captain Macera assured the passengers, «that our commitment to their safety and the operation without problems of this trip remains our top priority.»

The cruise is ready to conclude its trip on May 25 in Yokohama, Japan, according to the street.

Bartolomei celebrated 30 years with Princess Cruises this year, according to her LinkedIn page.
